Colorado Commercial Mail Receiving Agency

Denver Virtual Office is a USPS-verified Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA). This allows us to securely and legally provide digital mail forwarding services. Each of our Mail Scanning and Virtual Office clients gets a real physical address with a unique suite number right here in our Denver office.

Learn how CMRA services work and how your business might benefit from them:

A CMRA is a private company that provides virtual addresses and mail forwarding services for customers. The company must register with the US Postal Service as a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency in order to provide these services.

The customer also needs to complete Form 1583, which the CMRA then submits to the USPS. Form 1583 verifies the customer’s identity and confirms that the customer consents to the CMRA accepting their mail.

There are lots of reasons why business owners choose to use a CMRA, including:

  1. Privacy. Many small businesses don’t have a separate storefront or office, and using your home address for business can put your safety at risk. A CMRA gives you a separate business address to use instead.
  2. Professionalism. In addition to being a privacy risk, using a home address for business doesn’t look very professional. Having a real commercial business address helps you project a professional image.
  3. Convenience. Business owners have enough to deal with besides wading through junk mail and keeping track of invoices and legal documents. A good CMRA will filter out junk mail and just forward the important stuff. They can also digitally scan your mail to an online account where it’s easy to find.

How Does Using a CMRA Work?

First, hire a CMRA for mail forwarding or digital mail scanning. We offer three mail scanning packages:

  • Deluxe Mail Scanning: +10 mail scans for $49/year
  • Premium Mail Scanning: +25 mail scans for $99/year
  • Virtual Office: UNLIMITED mail scans for $19/month

All packages include a real Denver business address with a unique suite number.

Once you’ve ordered a mail forwarding service, your CMRA will give you instructions on completing PS Form 1583.

We make this part easy. After you purchase Mail Scanning or Virtual Office, you’ll be directed to your secure online portal, where you can submit the information and identification needed for Form 1583. We’ll have the form independently verified and then send it to the USPS for you. You won’t need to print or submit the form yourself.

Your CMRA should give you a physical address (not a P.O. box) that you can start using right away.

With our Mail Scanning and Virtual Office services, you get an address in our Denver building with a unique suite number, which you can give to customers, put on your website and social media, and even use on most business paperwork, including your Articles of Organization/Incorporation and your business tax returns.

When your CMRA receives your business mail, they can get it to you in one of three ways:

  • Scan mail to your online account
  • Physically forward to another address
  • Let you pick up your mail at their office

Denver Virtual Office primarily provides Open and Scan digital mail forwarding. That way, you can view your mail immediately from a secure online account, wherever you are. We can also forward a physical mail document to you for $15 + postage.

In order to keep our building secure, we don’t offer in-person pickup.

On Form 1583, you’ll need to provide:

Secure

We take your security seriously. That’s why only our vetted employees open and scan your mail, right here in our Denver office. Many of our competitors outsource to third-party processing hubs.

We also give you a private online account where you can safely view and store your mail. We upload the mail to your account, then send you an email notification that you have a new mail item to view.

Some mail forwarding services send their clients’ mail via email, which is much easier to hack than a secure online account.

Local

Some mail forwarding services rent an office in a skyscraper, never set foot in the building themselves, and outsource the mail processing to a third-party. That’s not how we operate. We’re based right here in Denver, where our employees live and work. Our full-time employees open and scan your mail in-house. And we’re always just a phone call or email away if you have an issue.

Affordable

Many mail forwarding and virtual office services charge $50, $100, or even $200 a month, just for a business address. We choose to keep our services affordable, so our customers will want to stay with us for years to come. We also don’t upsell you for features that should be included, like a unique suite number, same-day mail scans, or phone and email support from real humans.

Commercial Mail Receiving Agency FAQ

You can use your CMRA address as your business address, even on your Articles of Organization or Articles of Incorporation, your business tax returns, and your EIN filing. That’s because a CMRA address is a real address tied to a physical location, not a P.O. box. You can also feel free to give your CMRA address to customers and put it on your website, social media, and marketing materials.

There are a few places you may not be able to use a CMRA address, including on your personal tax returns. For these, you’ll need to use your residential address.

Form 1583 is required by the US Postal Service. The purpose is to verify that the person using the CMRA address is who they say they are, and to make sure they consent to having the CMRA forward their mail.

The information on Form 1583 is NOT made public. Only your CMRA and the USPS will have this information.

An owner or officer of the business must submit their personal ID.

You must submit two separate documents for photo ID and proof of address. The USPS won’t accept one document, such as a driver’s license, for both.

You can still use a US-based CMRA even if you don’t live in the US. You’ll still need to fill out Form 1583, but you may provide a residential address outside the United States.

No, if you’re a registered agent client and you don’t order Mail Scanning or Virtual Office, you don’t need to fill out Form 1583. As your registered agent, we’re already authorized to forward your Secretary of State and legal mail.
